THE
RESOURCES...find out about our resources
The thinking behind the resources
Our cities and estates are full of children who are
spontaneous, warm, uninhibited and challenging. Many
are very street-wise. Some come from families where
issues such as relationships, changing patterns of
care, and money cause constant friction. Some lack
good role models and consistent, stable adult relationships.
Some lack a sense of self worth and of being valued
simply for who they are.
The core values which underlie the CURBS resources
are about:-
-
Starting
in the child's world - not where we think the child
should be!
-
Earning
the right to be heard
-
Building
relationships
-
Building
a sense of self worth
- Taking
time
- Recognising
and nurturing spirituality
- Coming
alongside and 'being Jesus'
The
resources
The CURBS resource material is made up of a number of
packs called CURBStone Kits. These are primarily issues-based,
starting in the child's own world using themes such
as unfairness, self-esteem, friendship and so on, to
enable the children to make links between their world
and God's story. Each Kit contains biblical material
related to the theme, sometimes used explicitly, sometimes
implicitly. These different approaches are intended
to meet the needs of differing groups.
The material reflects the fact that many children will
be non-readers, and in this explores other approaches
to learning such as discovering ways of touching the
child's spirituality through the use of games, imagination
and creativity. Just as Jesus' ministry always touched
the whole person, so we are about helping the child
- and the leader - to see that Jesus cares about the
whole world of the child - her self, home, school, neighbourhood
- and wants to bring the best to these through a relationship
with himself.
